An old fashioned favourite, lovely flowers of silvery mauve with a creamy centre, makes a marvellous plant. Maggie Mott was born in 1868, and died in 1958 aged 90. The family lived in Scotswood, Sunningdale, which still stands, but the gardens are much reduced. Their gardener, Mr F. Burdett, propagated a new viola which was exhibited at the R.H.S in June 1902, July 1912 and again in July 1922 when it was given an Award of Merit. The viola was named after Maggie who was head of the household after her mother's tragic death in 1901 when she was thrown from her carriage whilst returning from church. Highly scented |
