We specialise in hardy, perennial Violas, with a continually expanding collection of over 150 varieties, comprising of old favourites and the best new introductions.
The Bouts Viola collection was established in 1978 by Mark and Stephanie Roberts. Their passion and dedication to ‘all things Viola’ has not only helped to preserve many old and rare varieties that might otherwise have been lost, but also led to the introduction of many new varieties, of which Elaine Quin, Perry’s Pride, Mark’s Dainty and Isabel are to name but a few.
In August 2011 Mark and Stephanie Roberts retired and we, here at Wildegoose Nursery, have been fortunate enough to take on this wonderful collection.
The idea for Wildegoose Nursery began back at RHS Garden Wisley in 2006 where we met as trainees and dreamt of having a beautiful garden and nursery business of our own. Well 5 years on the garden project has started with our move into the walled garden at Millichope Park and the violas are doing well in their new home in the beautiful Shropshire Hills.
We hope that you enjoy the website, which allows plants to be easily purchased through our online shop. For those who prefer a paper version, we still produce a catalogue each year, which can easily be requested via our online form.
We will continue to exhibit the Viola collection at Horticultural shows around the country, details of which can be found on our events page.
Continuing on from the success of last year’s open day, the Bouts Viola Collection will once again be open to the public in all its colourful array. This year the event will be held in the beautiful and historic setting of Millichope Park, the gardens and parkland of which will also be open on the NGS, bank holiday Monday 6th May, 2-6pm. More details are on our events page. We hope to see some of you there.
Best Wishes - Laura Crowe and Jack Willgoss
